At the beginning of the course, students are given a presentation on academic integrity, participate in a discussion about it, and sign a “Code of Academic Integrity” document. Exams are administered with webcams on during synchronous class sessions whenever possible so that teachers can monitor the students. We promote academic integrity when tests are completed on the student’s own time by using a variety of open-ended, custom assessments. The evaluation criteria are explicit, documented, and verbally reaffirmed by the professor. Rubrics are used in some instances. Peer evaluations are used in collaborative projects.
