The custom was changed in 1983 to only involve throwing the goalposts into the river if the school had won the Ivy League championship following three straight victories.
However, the goalposts have stayed in place since 2003. Modern concrete-footed goalposts made of steel and aluminum are more difficult to rip down, so the Penn police have taken extra measures to deter students from attempting to carry on the tradition. Students, however, do not believe that the custom has been abandoned, just put on hold until the right moment.

- A balanced and sophisticated curriculum for college preparation is what the College of Arts and Sciences seeks.
- Both the Wharton School and UPenn Engineering require applicants to have a strong background in mathematics, preferably with coursework in calculus. Students should submit an AP math grade (in calculus or statistics) for Wharton specifically. An AP Economics score would be impressive as well.
