  • Wilfred Edward Salter Owen MC was an English poet and soldier. He was born in the United Kingdom in 1893 and lived until 1918 (at the age of 25). At the University of Reading, he studied botany. He was a prominent poet during the First World War. His war poetry, which was heavily influenced by his mentor Siegfried Sassoon and contrasted with the public’s perception of war at the time and the assuredly patriotic verse written by earlier war poets like Rupert Brooke, focused on the horrors of trenches and gas warfare.
