- Moshe ben Maimon, also known as Maimonides or Rambam (Hebrew: ), was a medieval Sephardic Jewish philosopher who became one of the most prolific and well-known Torah scholars of the Middle Ages. Born in Spain, he lived from 1138 to 1204 (at age 66). His occupations included medicine, writing, philosophy, and rabbis, astronomers, and writers. He was Saladin’s personal physician at the time, and he was also a leading astronomer and physician. He was born on the eve of Passover in Córdoba, Almoravid Empire (modern-day Spain), and he served as a rabbi, physician, and philosopher in Morocco and Egypt. On December 12, 1204, he passed away in Egypt. His remains were transported from there to the lower Galilee and interred in Tiberias.
- Muhammad ibn Abd al-Karim al-Khattabi, better known as Abd el-Krim (1882/1883, Ajdir, Morocco – 6 February 1963, Cairo, Egypt), was a Moroccan political and military leader and the President of the Republic of the Rif. He was born in Morocco and lived from 1882 to 1963 (aged 81). He and his brother Muhammad oversaw a massive uprising of Riffian tribes against the French and Spanish colonization of the Rif in Morocco. Ho Chi Minh, Mao Zedong, and Che Guevara were all directly influenced by his guerrilla tactics, which included the first modern use of tunneling.
