You will be required to upload a current resume or CV detailing your professional experience, education, volunteerism, and any honors and awards you have won.
You must provide the names and phone numbers of three people who can assess your academic and professional credentials. These should be people who are aware of your academic accomplishments and can comment on your chances of succeeding in this particular academic environment. If you have been out of school for a while and are unable to provide former professors with contact information, you may be able to find other people who can speak to your achievement and potential. All incoming students at MPA@UNC must successfully demonstrate a working understanding of the foundations of American government. By taking the American Government prerequisite course, students in the MPA program are guaranteed to have a firm grasp of local, state, and federal government before they even start the program.
When you are accepted into the program, the director of admissions will review your application to see if you have completed the prerequisites and will let you know if you haven’t.
Students must finish the free online UNC MPA American Government course if they are accepted and enrolled in the program but have not already completed an American government course with a B or higher.
Test Scores and Transcripts
Standardized test scores (GRE, GMAT, LSAT) are optional. We encourage all applicants to submit an official graduate entrance exam score from within the previous five years if they feel their application materials do not adequately demonstrate their academic potential. This is especially advised for students with cumulative GPAs under a 3. 3, but any applicant is welcome to submit official exam results for the admissions committee to take into account.
Our GRE reporting code is 5816, and our GMAT reporting code is D40-55-95.
Applicants whose native language is not English or whose undergraduate degree was completed in a country where English is not the primary language of instruction will also need to submit scores from the TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE Academic.
The MPA Admissions Committee will choose finalists to be invited for virtual interviews on a rolling basis following a preliminary review of applications. The admissions team gains a comprehensive understanding of your background, accomplishments, and career goals from the personal interview.
