International Applicants and Degrees
If they are eligible, foreign students who are U.S. permanent residents can register as North Carolina residents. Non-US citizens with visa types: F-1, H-1, J, etc. , but they may apply as a non-resident instead. They are also ineligible for federal loans or grants. You will also be responsible for paying for your four-year medical school education if you are accepted into our medical school program. You will be required to finish a financial certificate demonstrating that you and/or whoever is funding your education will have the means to do so.
Since they are considered out-of-state applicants and are judged according to the same standards as our U.S. applicants, we do consider and offer admission to international applicants, but we do not have a special category for them. S. out-of-state applicants. If you obtained your undergraduate degree from a university outside the U S. or Canada, but UNC School of Medicine demands that you finish all prerequisite courses at a regionally accredited university or college within the U S. or Canada prior to applying through AMCAS.
We do. However, since we are a state-funded institution, North Carolinians are given preference. Approximately 20-25 non-residents are accepted each year.
To qualify for in-state tuition for a given term, you will be required by North Carolina law to prove that a bona fide domicile was established in North Carolina at least twelve months before the beginning of the term, that it was maintained continuously, and that you were physically present in the state during that time, and for purposes other than attending school.
