Students SayNestled in the uppermost reaches of New York State on a scenic one thousand-acre campus, St. Lawrence University is a vibrant liberal arts institution of around 2,400 undergraduates and a very long reach. The “alumni network is super active,” students have “lots of opportunities for hands-on research” and nearly two-thirds of SLU undergrads study abroad. With almost 70 majors to choose from, and the option to design one’s own course of study in the multi-field major program, there are “a plethora of options for one’s academic path.” Small class sizes-an average of 16 students in each-further focus those options, as enrollees note that they “feel more comfortable asking questions and having conversation,” which “fosters learning.” Adding to that comfort is a First-Year Program that helps with the transition to college and which is described as “a great way to bond” through living-learning communities in the dorms. The school also offers Community-Based Learning (CBL) courses that immerse students in the real world: “I am currently taking a CBL course at the local correctional facility that allows me to take a philosophy course in a classroom at the jail with ten SLU students and ten inmates as my classmates.”

Regarding the employees, “I’ve never felt so appreciated and believed in Students express their appreciation for the professors’ “incredible compassion for individual success,” highlighting how they “know people have different learning styles” and “always try to make the class [as] interactive as possible.” Many of the introductory classes are very affordable and give you the right amount of work, and their classes strive “to deliver a well-rounded education and develop our interpersonal skills.” And for those who are interested, you can start doing research as early as your first year: “Thanks to my professors, I was given the chance to study and train wildlife detection dogs with a focus on finding amphibians. ” Overall, students suggest that “St. Students can research past thinkers and ideas in Lawrence while also interacting with their peers to form their own opinions and viewpoints. “.
