With the same methods and resources you’ll eventually need in the workplace, you’ll learn from professionals in the industry while enrolled in our Animation degree program. You’ll create your own stories, designs, characters, and layouts using cutting-edge software and hardware, and you’ll also produce your own movies.
From story pitch to finished film
The emphasis of Sheridan’s animation program is on traditional animation principles in a range of formats, including 2D digital, 3D, and stop motion. Along with developing your life drawing, layout, and digital painting abilities, you’ll learn the craft of storyboarding. You’ll have the chance to learn about all facets of making animated films by collaborating or working alone on productions.
After Year 3, you’ll complete a three-month work placement to gain professional experience. Additionally, employers from across North America will fly in for our annual Industry Day to meet you, view your work, and conduct interviews.

Sheridan is home to students from all over the world who study animation. That’s because our Animation program has such a strong reputation. Sheridan is referred to as the “Harvard of Animation” by Michael Hirsh, one of the co-founders of Nelvana. ”.
Our graduates go on to work at prestigious studios across North America in television and feature animation.

The Ministry of Training, Colleges, and Universities has given Sheridan permission to offer this degree for an additional seven years beginning on April 29, 2019, subject to renewal after that. All Ontario colleges’ degree programs must submit a prescribed and cyclical application to the Ministry for the renewal of the consent. Sheridan will make sure that every student accepted into the Honours Bachelor of Animation program during the consent period has the chance to finish the course of study in a reasonable amount of time. Even if the Ministry decides not to continue offering the program in the future, credentials earned during the consent period are still valid.

Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, including these required courses:
- English, Grade 12 (ENG4U)
- One visual arts credit, equivalent to a postsecondary credit course in grades 11 or 12, U, M, or O.
- Four other Grade 12 subjects (U or M)
- Minimum 65% overall average
- Two semesters of postsecondary education including required English (ENG4U) or equivalent and Visual Arts course listed above with a minimum 65% overall average
Applicants are required to submit a portfolio. The Sheridan Application Portal will post the complete set of portfolio requirements, along with the submission deadline and guidelines. Please note that there is a portfolio assessment fee.

The selection of qualified candidates is based on their prior academic performance (the average of their highest six senior-level credits, including the prerequisite courses mentioned above), as well as the outcomes of their portfolio.
Applicants who do not meet the requirements for admission to this program may receive individual recommendations for other programs that are related.
All candidates who do not speak English as their first language must meet Sheridan’s English Proficiency Requirements.
Meeting the requirements of an internal academic policy that specifies course and program grade standards, as well as prerequisites and corequisites, is the basis for academic progress in the program. At the start of the program, students receive a copy of this policy.

Program Critical Performance:
With the help of principles of animation, drawing, design, cinematic storytelling, artistic expertise, and innovation, the graduate will have proven their ability to produce high-quality animation performances through a creative and professional portfolio by the end of the program. The graduate will have demonstrated a passion, confidence, a collaborative and independent spirit, fine-tuned communications skills, and the flexibility to work within a vibrant animation community that demonstrates a personal and professional commitment to artistic growth and cultural literacy.
- Create animated scenes that span the creation of the initial concept, through design, to the completion of the film or video production.
- Employing the principles of animation and performance in all aspects of drawing will help you convey ideas, believable action, and emotion effectively.
- Integrate the physics of animation’s concepts, tenets, and theories into all facets of your drawing.
- In order to fully engage the audience, develop a personal narrative voice that combines performance and storytelling elements.
- Create characters and settings in 2D and 3D that incorporate theoretical constructs, design principles, and performance principles.
- With speed, accuracy, and dexterity, create layouts and backgrounds that incorporate the principles of composition, perspective, and color.
- Make an animated movie that reflects the idea that form follows function while incorporating a variety of artistic styles and techniques.
- Organize and oversee the creation of a student movie, taking care of the cinematography, art direction, and editing aspects.
- Collaborate effectively with peers on film projects.
- Utilize critical thinking abilities and problem-solving techniques across all development and production facets.
- Manage objectives within the production schedule to successfully complete the necessary tasks.

All participants in this program must complete a required internship from May to August of their third to fourth years.
Internships are a type of work-integrated learning that combines in-class instruction with real-world work experience in a business setting. The student’s internship work terms, which can be paid or unpaid, are related to their academic studies. The work terms provide an opportunity to learn by doing. You’ll put theory into practice, form an insightful perspective on the working world, and grow in self-awareness as a professional.
In-class and one-on-one career education support is provided to students to aid in their internship preparation. The Cooperative Education Office of Sheridan facilitates more than 1,800 Co-op/Internship work terms annually throughout Sheridan.

You will learn the fundamental abilities that will enable you to work in any area of computer science in our Honours Bachelor of Computer Science program. However, you’ll also have the option to focus on one of four emerging fields that most interests you.
Each of these four disciplines—cloud computing, data analytics, game engineering, and network engineering—will be covered in the program’s first year.
Then, you’ll focus your studies on your selected specialization. Eight courses in your chosen specialization will be required, and you will learn specialized knowledge that is not typically covered in diploma and degree programs. When you graduate, your focus in computer science will give you a competitive advantage.
You can specialize in one of the following fields:
- Learn more about cloud computing, which is the Internet-based delivery of computing system resources like software, databases, servers, and data storage. Discover the benefits and drawbacks of private, hybrid, and public cloud delivery. Specialized Education Virtualization of Storage Systems Cloud Infrastructure Distributed Develop new cloud services and enhance already existing cloud products. Design and implement automated technologies and procedures to support your employer’s cloud offerings as a cloud automation specialist. Cloud Architect: Utilize your employer’s web services, cloud, and on-premise data centers to build hybrid DevOp platforms using your skills in software development and information technology. Automate, arrange, keep an eye on, and maintain all of your employer’s cloud-based systems as a systems administrator for cloud operations. Sell and promote various cloud solutions, such as Office 365 or Watson analytics, as a cloud services advisor.
- Learn how to use statistical analysis, data mining, and other cutting-edge techniques to glean fresh, practical insights from sizable data sets. Interpret and communicate information about the data patterns you find with confidence. Data analysis, Business Processes, and Specialized Courses Design and implement big data strategies that support the Data Warehouse Environment (DWE) as a data architect. Apply current technologies, ideas, and construction techniques to create development projects that incorporate various data sources. Data Developer: Apply cutting-edge technologies and Big Data architectures to meet functional and technical requirements while transferring data from various databases. Design, develop, and manage platforms that integrate various big data applications and utilities into a single solution as a big data platform engineer.
- Learn the mathematical, algorithmic, and programming techniques used to create the software for computer games. - Learn the specialized skills required to design, build, optimize, and manage the computer networks that businesses and organizations depend on every day with a network engineering degree. Network engineers design, install, maintain, and support computer networks. - Simulating and modeling Specialized Courses Modeling Introduction Using data visualization best practices, a data visualization specialist can independently design, visualize, and implement data visualization solutions. Imaging Programmer: Process medical data using processing software, template development environments, and advanced programming skills. Identify trends and outliers using predictive modeling and data mining (including the design, development, maintenance, and implementation of models), apply statistical techniques to the data and interpret the results, and create and design comprehensible and informative data visualizations.
