If you are a high school graduate who has taken a college-level course at a college, university, or any other institution since you graduated from high school, you are regarded as a transfer student.
I am in high school and taking college courses. Am I considered a transfer student?
You are regarded as a first-time freshman applicant if you are a high school student who is enrolled in Running Start, dual enrollment, the International Baccalaureate, or have obtained AP credit.
I already have a bachelor’s degree but want to earn another undergraduate degree. Do I apply as a transfer student?
Apply as a Post Baccalaureate student using the Seattle University Transfer Application if you have earned a bachelor’s degree and are seeking another undergraduate degree.
If I applied to Seattle University before, do I need to reapply?
You can submit an update form if you applied to Seattle University within the last two years. Please submit a new Seattle University Transfer Application if your previous application was submitted more than two years ago.
Do I need to reapply as a transfer student if I applied as a freshman while in high school?
You should reapply as a transfer student if you have college credits after high school graduation.
Can I be re-considered for admission if I have been denied admission to Seattle U in the past?
It is advised that you take on additional coursework and that your GPA trend upward for several consecutive quarters in order to be re-considered for admission after being rejected. Check for changes to prerequisites and/or new application material requirements before submitting updated transcripts.
Do I have to complete an associate’s degree to transfer?
Although transfer applicants are not required to complete an associate’s degree, depending on the program of interest, there may be benefits. More information on transferring credit can be found here.
What is the required GPA to be admitted as a transfer student?
A cumulative grade point average of at least 3. 00 (on a scale where an A is 4. 00) is usually required for transfer admission consideration. Applications are carefully reviewed, with course selection and student performance receiving the most weight. According to just transferable credits, the average GPA of accepted transfer students is 3. 44. I am ready to apply as a transfer/ post baccalaureate student. What do I do?
To apply as a transfer/post baccalaureate student submit the following:
- The Seattle University Transfer Application.
- A $55 application fee. Students applying for undergraduate programs only need to pay the application fee once. Students who will have earned an associate’s degree at a Washington, Oregon, Arizona, or California institution by the time of enrollment and who are transferring directly to Seattle University are exempt from paying the fee.
- Official transcripts from each college, university or professional school attended.
- Personal statement outlining how Seattle University fits the applicants’ educational objectives See application for more details.
- If English is not your first or native language, you must provide proof of your English proficiency. Regardless of English language proficiency, academic background, residency in the United States or other English-speaking nations, or immigration status, this is necessary.
- For those applying to the BSN or Diagnostic Ultrasound programs, additional materials are needed.
What application should I use?
Transfer applicants must submit the transfer application to Seattle University.
Are standardized tests or interviews required (SAT/ACT)?
Transcripts from high school are necessary for applicants with fewer than 45 transferable quarter college credits (30 semester credits). SAT and ACT scores are optional for all students. Interviews are not required.
Do I need to send a high school transcript?
The final, official transcripts from your high school must be submitted by transfer applicants who have less than 45 quarter credits (30 semester credits) of post-high school coursework. If they haven’t already sent one, applicants who applied to Seattle University as freshmen while still in high school must submit an official, final high school transcript.
Do I have to send all of my college transcripts?

Do I need recommendation letters to apply as a transfer student?
With the exception of the Diagnostic Ultrasound program, which requires two letters of recommendation, letters of recommendation are welcomed but not required.
May I request a waiver of the application fee?
Applicants may ask for a waiver if paying the application fee would cause them a real hardship. Seattle U specific fee waivers are also available for applicants. Students who will graduate with an associate’s degree from a Washington, Arizona, California, or Oregon state community college by the time of enrollment and who are transferring directly to Seattle University are also exempt from paying the fee. How will I know if Seattle University has received all of my application materials?
Seattle University will send you an email to the address you provided in your application once it has been submitted. A link to track your application and a list of necessary documents will be included in the email if the application is not complete. You will receive a confirmation email once your application is complete letting you know that it has been sent for review and a decision on admission. How long does it take to hear back after my application is complete?
With the exception of applications for nursing and diagnostic ultrasound, transfer applications are processed and evaluated on a rolling basis. An admission decision is typically made available online 6 to 8 weeks after an application is submitted, and students are notified via email when there is an update to the status of their application. Nursing and diagnostic ultrasound applicants can find out their admission status in the late spring.
What is the maximum number of credits that I can transfer?
Seattle University gives the most credit possible for courses taken at other accredited institutions in order to fulfill degree requirements. Upon acceptance to Seattle University, a formal evaluation of transfer coursework will be provided. Up to 90 quarter credits may be transferred to Seattle University by students transferring from community colleges. There is a cap of 135 quarter credits that students transferring from a four-year institution may transfer. How will my credits transfer?
Seattle U grants the maximum credit possible to meet degree requirements for courses taken at other regionally accredited institutions. With a direct transfer associate of arts or associate of science degree from a Washington State community college, the IGETC along with an associate of arts degree from a California community college, the Oregon associate of arts transfer degree or an associate of arts AGEC-A from an Arizona community college, 90 quarter credits transfer directly, junior standing is granted at entrance and many of the universitys Core curriculum courses are satisfied. Is financial aid available?
Nearly 90% of students at Seattle University receive financial aid. Seattle University provided undergraduates with more than $69 million in scholarships, grants, loans, and employment aid in the previous year. Through FAFSA, needs are assessed, and all transfer applicants are automatically given merit scholarship consideration. Are scholarships available?
Transfer students are automatically considered for merit-based scholarships if they submit an admissions application to Seattle University. Scholarships are awarded based on information provided in the application for admission, not on family income. And we promise that any institutional gift you receive will remain constant for the duration of your degree.
Are financial aid and scholarships available for international transfer students?

Students with post-baccalaureate degrees are not eligible for Seattle University’s merit-based scholarships. An analysis of financial need is determined through the FAFSA.

Is there an orientation program available for transfer students?;
After being accepted to the university, students sign up for the Transfer Success Orientation. The orientation gives students the chance to register for classes, meet with an advisor, and learn about the university’s resources. Visit the New Student Registration webpage for more information.
Can I live on campus?
All Seattle University freshmen and sophomores, as well as students under 21, are required to live on campus for two years. Transfer students submit an online housing application, and Seattle University assigns them to housing based on the number of credits they have been granted. Priority is given to transfer students who are coming from out of state and to students who do not live within commuting distance when it comes to housing for junior and senior students, which is provided on a space-available basis.
