Since its founding in 1971, the Saddleback College Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program has earned a stellar reputation among professionals in the medical field. After completing the prerequisite coursework, the program lasts for two years (four semesters).
The program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, Inc. (formerly NLNAC) and Board of Registering Nursing (BRN) accredited Registered Nursing Program. Graduates of the program are eligible to take the CA State Board licensure exam for Registered Nurses. The NCLEX pass rates for our graduates is consistently above the state and national average. There are currently no weekend or evening classes available through the Saddleback Nursing Program. Although it’s possible that a weekend clinical day will be assigned to you All lectures are on campus and held on Wednesdays.
Admission Requirements and Application Information
To qualify, the following conditions must be satisfied and not in process:
- be at least 18 years old when applying.
- To enable a background check to be completed and to be qualified to apply for NCLEX licensure after program completion, you must have a social security card.
- Completion with a 2. The following prerequisites for BIO must be completed within seven years of applying: BIO 15 – Microbiology; BIO 11 – Human Anatomy; and BIO 12 – Human Physiology with a grade point average of 8 or higher.

All applicants to the Saddleback College Associate Degree Nursing Program must pass background checks and drug tests. The Joint Commission mandates that any healthcare facility that requires personal criminal background checks for employees also require the same background checks for students and volunteers who assist with patient care.
Applications are not accepted via email, by mail or in-person. The registered nursing program receives approximately 250-300 applications each period. The program typically accepts 50 to 55 students twice a year (for the fall and spring), depending on the availability of clinical spaces. In the event that some students are unable to continue, the program does maintain an alternative list. For information on submitting your RN program application, please read the information below.
Spring 2023
The application period for Spring 2023 is now closed. The last day to apply was on July 17, 2022.
All communication regarding your submission will be sent through your Submittable account, including the status of your application. It is the students responsibility to ensure they are checking the email account used to sign up for the Submittable account for updates on the status of their submitted application.
As of 8/8/22, all notifications for spring 23 applications have been sent. The alternates ranged from 77 to 80 points, and the point cutoff was 82 points.
Fall 2023
The application period for admission for the fall of 2023 will begin on February 1 at 12 a.m. and end on February 8 at 11:59 p.m. Once the application period has started, a link to apply will be posted here. Applicants must have submitted an application for admission to Saddleback or IVC and have their Saddleback/IVC student ID# to apply. To apply for admission to Saddleback College, click here.

The following ATI TEAS exam will take place on January 24, 2023, at 9:00. Please complete and review the following information prior to testing:
- If you don’t already have one, register for an ATI account.
- Make sure your ATI account’s demographic data is updated or complete.
- To ensure there are no issues on test day, complete a dry run at least three days beforehand. Log into your ATI account, click “My ATI” at the top, then click “Test,” then click “Add Product,” and enter the Assessment ID: 18137817 and password: 28S7845A58 to complete a dry run.

- Please make sure to send Maddie Gonzalez any testing accommodations that have been authorized by the DSPS Office by January 20, 2023.

When applying to take the RN licensing exam, students must disclose whether they have ever been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor. A conviction may affect your eligibility to take this exam. Before beginning the nursing program, students with concerns about these situations should speak with the nursing program director or get in touch with the Board of Registered Nursing.
- Apply online if you are not a student at Saddleback College or IVC. Once the nursing application is made available, a student ID is required to complete it.
- Send all relevant official transcripts from institutions other than Saddleback, IVC, and ATEP to Admissions in an unopened state. This includes any AP test results used for high school course credit. Transcripts that have already been submitted are kept on file; you do not need to submit them again unless you need to update them because new, pertinent nursing coursework has been taken. - To make sure you meet the requirements to apply to the RN program and to discuss any additional courses you might need to take, such as GE requirements, schedule a meeting with a counselor. To ensure that any relevant coursework completed outside of Saddleback is equivalent, you should also check course equivalencies. You may need to fill out a petition for course substitution or waiver if it is determined that a course has not already been petitioned. - Start assembling the paperwork you might need to include with your application, such as:
- Unofficial copies of your transcripts demonstrating where you completed any necessary prerequisite courses and any relevant coursework, including the location of your degree awarding institution, if applicable
- A copy of your ATI TEAS score that is not official can be obtained by logging into your ATI account.
- If you speak a second language well, you should use one of the examples provided for proof. No self written letters will be accepted.
- If you are a Respiratory Therapist, LVN, LPT, CNA, EMT, or EMT-P, you must include a copy of your license (which must be current). No other licenses will be accepted.
- Please have your employer complete our employment verification form if you have worked within the past five years performing any of the responsibilities mentioned above.
Prior to enrolling in the RN program, it is in the student’s best interest to complete the following prerequisite courses because they can be used to accrue points:
- N 165 – Lifecycle 1, Fundamentals of Aging
- N 160 – Pharmacology for Nursing
- N 161 – Lifecycle 2, Growth and Development
- Communication 1: Foundations of Communication or Communication 5: Interpersonal Communication
- PSYC 1 – Introduction to Psychology
- Math requirement to fulfill AA/AS degree or higher
According to the nursing program curriculum, if these courses are not finished prior to enrolling in the program, they must be finished concurrently with the first, second, and fourth semesters of the program. *The nursing core courses are in person, not online.
Who will enroll in the nursing program is chosen based on this multi-criteria. The criteria consists of 100 total points possible. The students who receive the highest scores will be admitted to the program. In the event of a tie, the following criteria will be used to determine the order of the candidates:
- Pharmacology, Lifecycle I, Lifecycle II, Psychology 1, Communication Studies (formerly Speech 1 or 5), and Math completion are prerequisites for an AA/AS degree or higher in nursing.

The student must accept or reject admission within the timeframe specified in their letter once they have been offered a spot in the program. A student must reapply if they reject the offer to participate in the program. A student is allowed only one declination of invitation.
The student who is invited to serve as an alternate must accept or reject admission within the allotted response period and satisfy the same requirements as the invited student in order to continue serving as an alternate.
Those accepted into the program must be in good enough health to carry out nurse duties. The following titers, immunizations, and vaccinations must be obtained by students within three months of admission, so they should start right away:
