With this career path, you can graduate from MCPHS with a combined Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences and Master of Science in Occupational Therapy in five years as opposed to the standard six. Before transferring to MCPHS – Manchester, you’ll spend the first three years at MCPHS – Boston. There, you’ll have the chance to collaborate with professionals in our cutting-edge simulation labs and through a variety of clinical experiences both on and off campus. You’ll discover how to enhance patients’ independence by teaching them life skills that can be built upon or restored. When you graduate, you’ll be qualified to take the occupational therapy national board certification exam and start your fulfilling career.

Students may enter the first or second year of the program if they have 12 or more college credits. For transfer, courses must have been successfully completed at a college or university that is regionally accredited with a grade of C or higher. Prior to the anticipated date of matriculation into MCPHS, math and science courses taken more than ten years ago will not be accepted.
The first year of our program does not have any specific prerequisite courses, but the admissions committee will consider your performance in any math and science courses you have already taken. Your first year course load may change if you complete any of the courses below, but because MCPHS programs operate on a block registration system, entering the first year of the program with transfer credits won’t affect how long your program will last overall. Other than elective courses, you cannot advance any courses on your schedule.

Working with cutting-edge tools and adaptive equipment in our cutting-edge lab spaces, you’ll learn how to improve or restore patients’ capacities to carry out activities of daily living. To maximize independence and occupational performance, you’ll work one-on-one with patients, families, and caregivers to assess, treat, and educate them. A Sensory Integration Pediatric Lab, an Adult Functional Simulation Training Apartment Lab, and other clinical technology are available on our campus.

The BS/MS occupational therapy pathways at MCPHS give students the chance to finish their undergraduate and graduate degrees faster than the conventional six years.
To start a career as an occupational therapist, you must have a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy in order to sit for the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy exam.

Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for occupational therapists is expected to grow at a much faster rate than many other occupations, with a potential 18% increase in jobs needed by 2028 Baby boomers who are aging and attempting to maintain their independence and physical health are a contributing factor in this growth.

The entry-level occupational therapy masters degree program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), located at 6116 Executive Boulevard, Suite 200, North Bethesda, MD 20852-4929. ACOTEs telephone number c/o AOTA is (301) 652-6611 and its Web address is www.acoteonline.org. Graduates of the program will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapist administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of the exam, the individual will be an Occupational Therapist Registered (OTR). In addition, all states require licensure in order to practice; however, state licenses are usually based on the results of the NBCOT certification examination. Note that a felony conviction may affect a graduates ability to sit for the NBCOT certification examination or attain state licensure. This program is approved by the Division of Higher Education-Higher Education Commission, Department of Education State of New Hampshire.
Candidacy Status Granted for Worcester Campus Additional Location
The additional Worcester, Massachusetts location of the MCPHS University School of Occupational Therapy received Candidacy Status at the April 10–11, 2021 ACOTE Council meeting. As a result of this action, starting in September 2021, the School of Occupational Therapy can now accept students into the program at the additional location. The MCPHS University-Worcester Campus (OTM) program will now proceed with the process of obtaining full accreditation through ACOTE. For students to be eligible to take the National Certification Board of Occupational Therapy examination and receive initial certification to work as a registered occupational therapist, the program must receive full accreditation.
