As fully qualified physicians with a medical degree and post-doctoral residency training (3–7 years), doctors of osteopathic medicine (DO) can practice in any medical specialty.
Osteopathic medical students are trained in osteopathic principles and practice as well as 200 hours of osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM), in addition to receiving the same medical education as other doctors. OMM is a hands-on approach to patient diagnosis and care that has been shown to be successful in treating a variety of injuries and illnesses while reducing complications and length of hospital stays.
