Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM)
The Veterinary Teaching Hospital sees patients for primary, specialty, referral, and emergency care around-the-clock. Students are instructed with primary, secondary and tertiary care caseloads. The hospital is divided into two clinics: one for large animals and one for small animals, both of which are supported by diagnostic services. Baton Rouge is home to Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine. The Mississippi River borders the more than 2,000-acre LSU campus. The Veterinary Medicine Building, where the School of Veterinary Medicine is housed, is on the west side of the campus and was first occupied in 1978. The veterinary academic departments, veterinary library, veterinary teaching hospital, and clinics are all housed in this building.
There are three major academic divisions at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine:
1. Those who are qualified are interviewed by a three-member panel. Please note that not all applicants are interviewed. The applicant is evaluated on the following during the interview:

Out of the usual 87 incoming students accepted at LSU Vet School:
• 55–60 are for LA locals; 9 are for contract students from AR; and 18 are for non-locals.
Timetable
GRE test results are due on November 15; supplemental applications are due on October 15; interviews take place in January and February; and acceptance letters are mailed in mid-March.
Prior to matriculation, you must finish all required courses by the end of the spring semester if you intend to apply to the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine. Although a bachelor’s degree is not necessary, a minimum of 66 credit hours is. Organic chemistry, one of biology (preferably microbiology), and one of physics must have been taken within the previous six years in order to be eligible for admission to LSU Vet School. The other prerequisite classes do not have a deadline or expiration date, but they are all required to be passed with a grade of C or higher.

Required Experience
Veterinary Medical Experience While it is not necessary, applicants to the LSU Veterinary School are strongly encouraged to have this experience. In general, the applicant will fare better if the application has more experience and a wider range of experiences. Experience may include clinical, medical, agricultural, health-related, or scientific research experience.
