Control The Cost Of College

Following admission, new international students may be eligible for academic scholarships based on cumulative GPA; for information on how to evaluate transcripts, please see the “Undergraduate Admission Requirements” document above. These scholarships are renewable annually based on satisfactory academic progress.

  • ≥ 3.0 GPA = $16,000/year International Presidential Scholarship
  • ≤ 2.99 GPA = $12,000/year International Dean’s Scholarship
  • Additionally, international students who live on campus are eligible for a $4,000 annual grant.

TOEFL Exemption for Admissions

One of the entrance requirements for undergraduate admission is English proficiency for international students. It is necessary to score at least 500 on the TOEFL on paper, 173 on the TOEFL on a computer, or 61 on the TOEFL on the internet. All applicants whose first language is not English must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

Exempt from submitting TOEFL scores are applicants that have:

  • a high school diploma from an English-language high school in any region or country where English is spoken
  • completed at least one term of full-time postsecondary academic study in a country where English proficiency is required for admission, such as the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, or New Zealand.
  • acceptable GCE Ordinary or Advanced Level, GCSE, or acceptable test results from the West African Examinations Council’s Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations (SSCE)
  • endorsed by Lakeland University-approved ESL institutions in the U S. or by other higher education institutions with whom Lakeland University has signed a contract addressing this requirement, or
  • acceptable IELTS scores, which must be at least 6 for undergraduate admission and 7 for graduate admission

Lakeland reserves the right to decide whether an international applicant must take an admissions test.
