ADMISSION INFORMATION FOR GENERIC BS APPLICANTS

Helene Fuld College of Nursing (HFCN) has a first come, first serve rolling admissions process. The admission application is an online process using Nursing Centralized Application Service (NursingCAS) via https://nursingcas.liaisoncas.org/apply/. Submitting a NursingCAS application early before the beginning of the start term is strongly encouraged.

The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS Exam) is a prerequisite for admission and must be passed by all applicants in order for their applications to be considered. They must also submit official transcript copies. To view information regarding the application process (click here). For consideration, applicants must submit complete and accurate information. Deliberate falsification of information will disqualify an applicant. If falsification is discovered after admission, it will be grounds for dismissal. The College of Nursing retains the right to be the only arbiter of whether an applicant is qualified to enroll in its program of study.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

A. If you have less than 24 college credits and a high school diploma or its equivalent:

High school diploma or equivalency.
United States citizen or eligible non-citizen.
If you have graduated from high school, you must have at least a B average (80%), or you must have a SAT score of 800 or an ACT score of 14. Enter the school code 2327 to have your SAT results sent to Helene Fuld College of Nursing.
Transcripts from all colleges and universities attended as well as high school should be sent directly to NursingCAS.
If college or high school was attended outside of the United States, Globe or World Education Services (WES) evaluated foreign transcripts.

No federal law requires applicants to disclose proof of citizenship in order to be admitted to a U.S. institution of higher learning, and DACA students are eligible for the same need-blind admissions policy as US citizens, permanent residents, and eligible non-citizens. SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED OF NURSING APPLICANTS AND STUDENTS

HFCN is dedicated to fostering the development of career-achievers who are lifelong learners. The HFCN Technical Standards for Core Professional Nursing Competency Performance (Technical Standards), which identify core professional nursing competencies in five distinct domains (Communication, Observation, Cognitive, Motor, and Behavioral and Social Attributes), are an essential part of the college academic requirements. Nursing students must successfully complete all requirements of the Technical Standards in order to graduate from their respective curricula, whether with or without reasonable accommodations. These guidelines apply to all student behavior, regardless of the environment (e g. classroom/didactic, office, on-campus simulation or off-campus clinical, email communication, etc. ).

After a candidate’s NursingCAS application has been submitted and reviewed, Helene Fuld College of Nursing schedules the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) testing. Applicants will be notified of eligibility to test. Prior to the TEAS testing, all applicants should have an active email account and a basic understanding of computers. Because testing registration is on a first-come, first-served basis, applicants are advised to submit their applications as soon as possible. The initial TEAS test fee is $75. The retesting fee is $75.

All candidates who have passed the TEAS entrance exam may be required to take part in an admissions interview with HFCN staff and/or faculty members as part of a holistic admissions approach before being formally accepted into the Generic BS Program. After passing the TEAS entrance exam, a candidate will receive more information regarding their admissions interview.

The admissions office will get in touch with the applicant once they have passed the TEAS exam (or received approval for direct admission). Currently, a $100 one-time, non-refundable enrollment deposit is needed. This deposit will be applied to tuition upon acceptance to Helene Fuld College of Nursing and is held on the applicant’s account as a conditional acceptance.

COMPLIANCE (CASTLE BRANCH) REQUIREMENTS

All HFCN students must fulfill the compliance requirements outlined in Castle Branch (CB) prior to beginning any program. Castle Branch is a central repository for all regulatory documents.

All students are required to complete CB onboarding. CB requirements include, but are not limited to the following:

Background check.
Physical examination (on approved HFCN PE form).
Immunizations.
Proof of health insurance.
CPR Certification (BLS).
Drug screen.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has recommended that COVID 19 requirements be followed.

Additionally, New York State’s Public Health Law 2165 mandates that people born on or after January 1, 1957 receive the MMR vaccine, which protects against measles, mumps, and rubella. Additionally, all students in New York State are required to complete a Meningococcal Meningitis Response form (Public Health Law 2167)

Students must maintain compliance with all requirements for the duration of the program. Any student who is found to be in non-compliance runs the risk of administrative expulsion from the college and, at the very least, will have their registration suspended until all conditions are met.

TRANSFER CREDITS AND CREDIT BY EQUIVALENCY TESTING

HFCN accepts transfer credits following careful examination of transcripts received prior to the start of the student program. After the student has started the program, transcripts obtained after that point won’t be examined.

The number of credits that students may transfer from other institutions may be restricted, and HFCN will have the final say on whether or not to approve any transfer credit.
Only courses taken at accredited institutions and courses with official transcripts will be taken into consideration for transfer credit.
Science credits must have been completed within a two-year period.
Only non-science courses taken within the last five years will be taken into account for transfer credit.
Transfer credits will not be accepted for nursing courses.
Transfer courses are evaluated individually. It is up to HFCN to decide what counts as an academic course.
Students must notify the Registrar’s Office in writing if they are enrolled in a course at another institution with a course end date that ends after the specified deadline.
After the final day of their course, students will have two weeks to submit an official transcript.
Courses with grades of 78 or higher will only be taken into consideration for transfer credit.
Students who received a Pass (P) grade are required to provide documentation of their earned grade in the form of a numeric grade.
The student must submit a WES (World Education Service) evaluation in order for courses taken at institutions outside of the United States to be taken into consideration for transfer credit.

For applicants who have already taken college-level courses but have credits that are more than five years old, the College will accept credits in Introduction to Psychology, Human Growth and Development, and Introduction to Sociology.
