Please be aware that the Pre-licensure BS in Nursing program has been impacted. Pre-licensure BS in Nursing major admission is a two step process because it is a impacted, highly competitive program. Prior to being accepted as a Pre-Nursing major, all prospective pre-licensure nursing students must first apply to CSUSB during the Fall application period, which runs from October 1 to November 30. By using the online application found on this page, only pre-nursing students may apply to the Pre-licensure BS in Nursing major. It is crucial that each step of this two-step process be completed. Please have all of your application materials ready before beginning your online application to the Department of Nursing’s Pre-Licensure BSN Program, including:
- Grades for all prerequisite courses
- Supporting documentation of bilingual status (if applicable)
- Your TEAS outcomes must be delivered to us directly by ATI.
Please keep in mind that you can only submit the application once, so make sure all of your materials are ready and that the information is accurate.

The Department of Nursing (DON) will stop accepting paper applications and transcripts on May 5, 2020. Beginning with the Spring 2021 admissions cycle, the DON will accept digital applications. In the appropriate application cycle, all upcoming applications and supporting documents must be submitted electronically. Active link will be provided during applications cycle.
Requirements for admission to the BSN program are:
- *Acceptance into CSUSB as a Pre-Nursing Student
- Example BSN Application *Completed, online pre-licensure BSN application per link, which will be made available during the application period.
- *At the time of the application deadline, all previous and current transcripts from post-secondary institutions must be submitted and kept on file at CSUSB. It is expected that you have fulfilled all 8 requirements before being considered for admission. The applicant must inform the Department of Nursing if a prerequisite course is ongoing or not yet finished. Evidence of planned completion must be submitted to bsnapplications@csusb. edu by the application deadline (i. e, enrollment verification).
- *Prerequisite and required cumulative GPA according to official transcripts/PAWS overall cumulative GPA of 3 The DON will accept grades of credit or no credit for prerequisite courses, but strongly advises applicants to receive letter grades for all prerequisite classes. If a prerequisite course receives a credit grade, it will be treated similarly to an AP credit course, which does not count toward GPA calculations. A minimum GPA of 3. 0 on Successful completion of all prerequisite courses, with a minimum grade of C required in each course, including at least 2 of the 4** prerequisite science courses AND at least 2 of the 4** prerequisite non-science courses. The first earned grade of each prerequisite is used to calculate the prerequisite GPA. Prerequisite support courses include the following eight: BIOL 2200 Microbiology for Allied Health Majors (4), BIOL 220 Principles of Microbiology (5), BIOL 2230 Human Anatomy and Physiology I for Allied Health Majors (4), BIOL 223 Human Physiology and Anatomy I (5), BIOL 2240 Human Anatomy and Physiology II for Allied Health Majors (4), BIOL 224 Human Physiology and Anatomy II (5) As of Fall 2021, CHEM 205 or CHEM 215 must be taken as a quarter course in addition to CHEM 2060 to replace CHEM 2070. Prerequisite non-science courses: Course that fulfills GE Category A2 Written Communication (3) [Quarter Equivalent: English: 107, 104A, 104B, or 106 (4)] Course that fulfills GE Category A3 Critical Thinking (3) [Quarter Equivalent: Critical Thinking: Comm 180, Hon 104A, Math 180, Phil 105, Phil 200, Psyc 105, or Soc 180 (4)] Course that fulfills GE Category A1 Oral Communication (3) [Quarter Equivalent: Comm 120 or Hon 104C (4)] Math 1201 Introduction to Statistical Thinking (3) [Quarter Equivalent: Math 165, Statistics (4)] # Pre-requisite courses with AP Credit will be accepted but will not impact GPA. Although PSYC 2201 is a prerequisite for each of the first semester nursing courses (NURS 2602, NURS 2821, and NURS 3016), it is not a prerequisite for the program. After taking PSYC 1100, PSYC 2201 should be taken as soon as possible, followed by NURS 2601, NURS 2821, and NURS 3016.
- *Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) A minimum score of 70% on the most recent version of the Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI) ATI TEAS is to be taken within 12 months of the application period to the nursing program A maximum of two ATI TEAS attempts will be permitted in the 12 months prior to the application period, starting on July 16, 2020. If a student attempts the TEAS more than once in the twelve months preceding the application period, the highest of the first two scores in the twelve months will be taken into account. Effective class of Fall 2021. By the application deadlines, the Department of Nursing must receive official ATI TEAS results. Candidates should order a copy of their ATI Individual Performance Profile (IPP) transcript at the time of testing. Direct delivery of this copy from ATI to the department of nursing at CSUSB is required. Students should make sure that the Department of Nursing has copies of all previous and current TEAS test results and that they were submitted by the application deadlines in addition to the current TEAS test results. - *Completion of the CSUSB Nursing Information Session within a year of the application period Please see dates above (Information Sessions).

- Local CSUSB residents are given additional consideration and preference. Veterans applying for admission should refer to the CSUSB website’s CSUSB-FAQs for the University’s definition of the local area. S. Armed Services. Bilingual proficiency must be demonstrated by the applicant in one of the following ways: completion of three (3) years of one foreign language in high school course work with a grade of C or higher in each course as shown on an official high school transcript completion of a 1112 (Quarter Equivalent: 103) foreign language course at CSUSB, which is the equivalent of an intermediate-level college or university foreign language course, with a grade of C or higher. ** Post-Baccalaureate students only: Please review the “Additional Information for Post-Baccalaureate and Transfer Applicants” section at the bottom of this webpage regarding prerequisite courses. *Requirements 1 to 7 above must be satisfied for an application to be considered.
- Before applying to the BSN Pre-licensure program, candidates must first apply to CSUSB. The BSN program will only consider applicants who have been accepted as pre-nursing students at CSUSB. Acceptance and enrollment in the BSN program depend on enrollment in CSUSB. Admissions Information.
- CSUSB pre-licensure program is an impacted program. For consideration and acceptance into the nursing pre-licensure program, which leads to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and prepares students for RN licensure, only students admitted to the university as pre-nursing students will be eligible. Once a student has been admitted to the university under a different major, they are not permitted to submit a change of major to Pre-Nursing / Nursing.
- Before submitting their application materials, prospective applicants must attend a Department of Nursing Information Session (Info Session Dates). Before the application filing period, numerous information sessions are provided. Early in the year, before the online application filing period, when space is more readily available, interested and potential applicants are encouraged to attend an info session to learn about the application requirements and procedures.
Review and Consideration of Coursework
Only completed coursework is accepted and reviewed for credit.
Final transcripts demonstrating all prerequisites completed are required to be sent to nursinginfo@csusb if accepted for the Fall term. edu by July 1.
Both new and returning applicants must ensure that the university has their most recent transcripts on file. Final transcripts must be sent to nursinginfo@csusb if admitted for the Spring term. edu by January 3 for Spring term.
- It is the responsibility of the applicants to research whether courses taken at colleges and universities other than CSUSB will transfer as equivalent to necessary prerequisite courses using the resources available to them.
- Check the listings for the Nursing (BS) major, the department the class is in, and the CC/JC CSU GE-Breadth Certification Course sections if classes were taken at California public schools.

Additional Information for Applicants:
Around the end of March for applicants for the Fall term and around mid-September for those applying for the Spring term, applicants are notified via email of conditional BSN admission or of rejection. The requirements that must be met in order to register for their first nursing courses will be described in the notification letter (see below). After receiving the notification letter, admitted students have five working days to respond and accept or reject their admission. If and only if admitted students continue to be registered as CSUSB students and have finished all prerequisite courses in accordance with the following academic standards, they will be allowed to sign up for and attend first-term nursing courses:
- Cumulative overall GPA of 3.5
- completion of all prerequisite classes with a C or higher in each
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater for prerequisite courses
- By the end of the previous CSUSB Spring term, all prerequisite courses for admission to the Fall semester must be finished.
- By the end of the previous CSUSB Fall term, all prerequisite courses for admission to the Spring semester must be finished.
- Final transcripts and grade reports: must be submitted to nursinginfo@csusb. edu by July 1 for Fall term. must be submitted to nursinginfo@csusb. edu by January 3 for Spring term.
Accepted students will be expected to provide a valid Social Security Number/Card (SSN) and California driver license prior to the start of classes, as well as a satisfactory criminal background check and health compliance as required by clinical agencies. (Applicants should get in touch with the Department of Nursing office if they have any queries or issues.) ) Attending the BSN program requires additional Prominent Costs (e. textbooks and study/testing materials, clinical and lab compliance checks and fees, clinical uniforms and materials In accordance with the Credit by Examination policy, candidates who have previously taken courses in nursing and/or health-related fields may be eligible for course credit. Candidates who have previously applied but were rejected may do so for the subsequent term. A new application must be submitted. The applicant must ensure that the DON has received all necessary documents.
Additional Information for Post-Baccalaureate and Transfer Applicants
CSUSB pre-licensure BSN program is an impacted program. To apply to the pre-licensure BSN program, students must be accepted to the university as pre-nursing majors. As a pre-nursing applicant during an open undergraduate CSUSB application period, students who wish to transfer to CSUSB and apply to the CSUSB pre-licensure BSN program are expected to follow the Cal State Apply instructions.
Students pursuing their first baccalaureate degree follow a different procedure than applicants with a completed baccalaureate degree seeking admission to the Department of Nursing Pre-licensure BSN program.
- Prior to applying to the program, Post-Bac applicants must have earned a C or higher in PSYC 2201 and all 8 prerequisite courses. Applicants must also have a cumulative GPA of 3. 5, or higher, at time of application.
- Prior to or during the Department of Nursing application period (see dates above), Post-Bac applicants must submit complete, current transcripts to begin the application process. Unofficial transcripts should be sent to bsnapplications@csusb for the Department of Nursing by applicants. edu).
- Applicants must submit a current TEAS exam result. The TEAS exam needs to be finished within the above-mentioned time frames and submitted by application deadlines.
- Post-Bac applicants must attend a current information session. The info sign up link and dates are found above.
- The applicant’s transcripts will be evaluated after the department of nursing receives all college transcripts.
- Only those post-baccalaureate applicants who have been pre-approved in accordance with departmental requirements, including cumulative GPA, prerequisite GPA, and TEAS, will be eligible for consideration.
- A Post-Baccalaureate applicant will receive an invitational code to apply to CSUSB if accepted into the Pre-licensure BSN program.
