I just wanted to give a quick update on how the Cornelius Vanderbilt and Chancellor’s Scholarship awards are chosen. As of this afternoon, we have sent letters and emails to those who have received Cornelius Vanderbilt and Chancellor’s Scholarship awards. Only an email will be sent to applicants who were rejected for either program. There have been offers for 156 Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarships and 42 Chancellor’s Scholarships combined. Please be aware that selections for our other merit scholarships—such as the Curb, Russell Rice, and Seigenthaler—are still being made. Recipients of these scholarships will be notified by April 1.
Competition for our merit scholarship programs continues to be intense. Awards in one of our three signature programs (Cornelius Vanderbilt, Chancellor%E2%80%99s and Ingram) are being made to fewer than 1% of our applicants for admission The Vanderbilt community’s staff and faculty have devoted countless hours to reading and debating scholarship applications and making difficult selections for award recipients.
We are continually astonished by the high quality of the applicant pools and the overwhelming response to our signature merit programs. For the Cornelius Vanderbilt program, more than 5,400 students applied, and for the Chancellor’s Scholarship program, more than 775 students did. Along with the over 800 students who applied for the Ingram Scholarship program, this is also true.
We appreciate your interest in Vanderbilt and invite you to contact our office by email if you have any questions.

All applicants who apply for merit-based scholarships by the December 1 deadline will be considered whether or not test scores are submitted. Read Vanderbilt’s statement regarding test-optional policy for fall 2022 applicants.
Vanderbilt offers merit-based scholarships every year to candidates who exhibit exceptional achievement and intellectual promise. Due to the small number of merit scholarships available, the selection process for these students, who represent the top 1% of all freshman applicants to Vanderbilt, is extremely competitive.
As long as the recipient maintains a satisfactory GPA throughout their four years of undergraduate study, all merit-based scholarships offered at Vanderbilt are renewable. According to enrollment, a certain number of scholarships are given out by each of the four undergraduate institutions. Financial need is not a factor unless otherwise indicated.
