Up until the class is full, the MS in Medical Sciences (MAMS) program, which starts each academic year in September, accepts applications on a rolling basis. However, we strongly advise interested candidates to submit their applications before June 1 A $500 non-refundable deposit is needed to hold a spot in the incoming class for those who are accepted.

Do you accept students for January admission?
In January, we do not accept students into the MAMS program. All students begin the program in the fall semester.
What is the minimum overall GPA and minimum standardized test scores for acceptance into the Master of Science in Medical Sciences Program?
The minimum overall GPA is a 3. 0 and the 70th percentile on the GRE or an MCAT score of 25 are the required minimum scores for standardized tests. Exceptions are reviewed holistically on a case-by-case basis.
When is my application reviewed for the Medical Sciences Program?
Upon receipt of all necessary documentation (letters, official transcripts, GRE or MCAT, resume/cv, and Personal Statement) and the application fee, applications are reviewed on a rolling basis beginning in February.
What pre-requisite science courses should be listed on the application?
As our admissions committee reviews your entire transcript, applicants are permitted to leave this section blank.
When will I find out if I am accepted into the program?
Beginning in February, acceptances are granted until the start of the program in August. Written notification/Electronic email is sent when a decision is finalized.
How many students are accepted each year for the Medical Sciences Program?
Approximately 170-180 students are accepted each year.
How should I send my MCAT scores?
You can email scores that you download from the THx report system to mams@bu as a PDF. edu. Score reports may also be sent to the admissions office via mail or fax.
Where should I indicate a future MCAT or GRE date?
There is an option to include the date of a future scheduled GRE test date for GRE results listed under test scores.
There is no designated area on the application for MCATs where test dates in the future can be entered. Please submit a separate document stating that you intend to take the MCATs at a “FUTURE DATE.” After that, we’ll make a note in your file and hold off on making a decision about your application until we have your test results.
I have applied to BUSM. Can my AMCAS application with test scores, letters of recommendation and verified grades be used for MAMS admission?
Students who have applied to Boston University School of Medicine in the past should upload a statement asking for your BUSM admissions credentials with their GMS application. Along with this request, you should also email Dr. Gwynneth Offner at goffner@bu. edu. If you decide to enroll in the program after being accepted, you must give GMS an official transcript from each institution you attended.
What are the payment options for the application fee?
The required payment for the online application fee is $80 made by credit card. For employees of Boston University Medical Campus who can provide proof of their BU I, the application fee is waived. D. For all others, no fee waiver is offered.
Is it possible to submit all supporting documents (letters of recommendations, transcripts, and test scores) before submitting my application?
No. Prior to sending supporting documents to the admissions office, applicants must submit an online application (and pay the application fee). Prior to a completed application, all credentials received will not be processed. For letters of recommendation to be accepted as official, they must be sent via mail in a sealed envelope with a flap that is signed. Additionally, letters of recommendation may be submitted online via our GEMS admissions service.
Do I need to have transcripts sent from every institution that I have attended?
Yes. Transcripts from each institution attended must be submitted by applicants, but initially, students may upload unofficial transcripts to their application for review. After being accepted, a student must submit an official transcript from each college or university they have ever attended. Applicants who have attended an institution outside the U. S. must deliver certified copies and an official translation of the transcripts into English.
What is the institution code for the GRE and TOEFL report?
The Division of Graduate Medical Sciences’ institution code is 3087.
For how long are my test scores valid?
GRE scores are valid for five years, and ETS will not send official score reports for exams taken more than five years ago. The validity of TOEFL scores is two years, and the ETS service will not send official score reports for tests taken more than two years ago. MCAT scores are valid for 5 years.
I am a Permanent Resident. Am I required to submit the International Applicant Coversheet or TOEFL Report?
For a Permanent Resident, the International Applicant Coversheet is not necessary. Send a copy of your Green Card, which serves as proof of residency, to the GMS Admissions Office. The TOEFL test is not required.
If I wish to withdraw my application from Boston University, will the application fee be refunded?
No, if you withdraw your application from consideration, the application fee won’t be reimbursed.
My unofficial transcripts or other supporting documents are too large to upload with the application – what should I do?
You can email large PDF files directly to [email protected] because the online application tool has a limit on upload size. edu after you submit your application online. By doing this, the PDF can be directly added to your application.
LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION
For consideration for admission to the Division of Graduate Medical Sciences, three letters of recommendation are required. The three letters can be replaced with a single committee letter or a letter packet delivered from your undergraduate or post-baccalaureate institution. A science professor must write one of the submitted letters. You may send more than three individual letters if appropriate.
Will you accept letters of recommendations mailed from my university’s career center or letter service?
Yes, we accept letters of recommendation in hard copy (by mail) or online format as part of a letter packet or committee letter from your university or college career services. Please mark “committee letter” for each of your three recommenders when submitting your online application.
(1) When uploading a letter packet, select “online” submission for the third recommender who will upload the committee letter and “paper submission” for the first two letters. Name the person whose email address will be used to upload your letter package.
(2) Please check “paper submission” for all three recommenders on the online application if you are submitting a hard copy, and have your pre-professional advising office mail the packet to our admissions office.
I have already applied to medical school, can I send the same letters to the MS in Medical Sciences program?
Yes. Your university or college’s pre-professional advising office can write recommendations for you and send them to the admissions office. You may submit three separate letters in addition to the committee letter (see above). Letters may also be uploaded to the GEMS application service or sent to the Admissions office via Interfolio. Students who have applied to Boston University School of Medicine in the past should upload a statement asking that we obtain your admissions credentials and send an email with this request to Dr. Gwynneth Offner goffner@bu. edu.

Yes, the program can be completed in 12 months. Students in this option will begin the program in September and complete it in August of the following year. Prior to beginning the MAMS program, students who intend to apply to medical school immediately after program completion should submit their AMCAS applications. Some students do opt to finish a thesis that is based in a lab and finish the program in two years.
Should I apply to medical school prior to applying to the MAMS program?
In order to make an informed decision about whether to apply to medical school in the summer before beginning the program, candidates should speak with their pre-professional office. Students who are considering attending medical school should speak with Dr so that our office can best assist their medical school applications, offner early in the fall semester.
How many students from the Medical Sciences Program matriculate into medical school?
Of the graduates who apply to a medical school, approximately 70% are admitted into medical schools in the U S. Normally, Boston University School of Medicine accepts 25 to 30 students each year. Most graduates continue their careers in other medical science fields instead of applying to medical school.
Do you accept international students and applications from Canadians?
Yes, both are encouraged to apply to the general MAMS degree program. All medical school prerequisite coursework must be taken at a 4 year US or Canadian University or College. All international applicants should apply by June 15, 2013 the latest to allow adequate time for processing. If I choose to complete the program in 2 years will I pay more tuition?
You must enroll full-time (12-18 credits) in the fall and spring semesters and for at least 2 credits in both summer sessions if you want to finish the program in a year. For the Fall and Spring semesters, students must pay full-time tuition; however, for the two summer sessions, they only have to pay the continuing student fee, which is equal to two credits.
Students still only pay the continuing student fee (equivalent to 2 credits), or per credit hour for additional coursework, in the Fall and Spring of the second year if they choose to finish the program in two years. Students who finish the program in two years are exempt from signing up for either summer session.
