After taking part in these programs, prospective freshmen students may be eligible for the following scholarships:

Note: Only eligible incoming freshmen students may apply for Baylor Scholarship Programs. On our webpage for Transfer Academic Scholarships, you can look into additional scholarship options if you’re thinking about transferring to Baylor. Additionally, merit-based awards are available to all students; the programs below are additional to these awards.

Our Distinguished Scholars Days and Invitation to Excellence are both invitation-only events. Students with academic records that meet the requirements who apply to Baylor by November 1 are eligible to be considered for these special programs. Selected pupils will get an email and update through the “Connect” feature. No separate Scholarship Program application is required for these programs.

Not all students who qualify will be invited due to the competitive nature and limited space of these programs. Our review procedure is comprehensive, so we consider extracurricular accomplishments, demonstrated interest in Baylor, as well as academic performance. In light of this, we fervently urge you to submit all required materials when making an admissions application to Baylor.

What is Baylor2?

Students are conditionally accepted to the Baylor College of Medicine and admitted to Baylor University for the 8-year combined undergraduate and medical program. Students spend 4 years at each school.

The program also awards scholarships to all students within it, of either $10,000 or $2,000 per year in undergrad (two students will receive the maximum, and the rest will get $2,000). Two additional scholarships of $10,000 are awarded to students in the program upon their entrance to medical school.

Although participants in the program are free to pursue any major at Baylor, they are expected to complete all pre-medical requirements and be sufficiently academically prepared before beginning medical school. To enter medical school, program participants must also take the MCAT and achieve a score between 501 and 507 with no section scoring lower than 125.

Although there are no set time requirements, students in the program are given many opportunities to volunteer and make connections with medical professionals and healthcare facilities. As the program is housed within the Honors College and all of its enhanced resources, it also gives students access to a variety of research opportunities at Baylor University.

How to Apply to Baylor2

You must first apply to Baylor University because until you do so, you will not be able to access the other sections of the application. Along with the personal statement, Baylor also requires two letters of recommendation and a single prompt. This is:

  • Why do you want to attend Baylor, what qualities are you looking for in a university, and how do you see yourself contributing to the Baylor community? (450 words)

Although this essay is only required for students applying to Baylor Early Decision, we advise responding to it if you are applying to Baylor2 as it is an additional opportunity to share your skills and values with admissions officers.

Once you’ve submitted your application, you’ll have access to the GoBaylor portal. You will be able to apply to Baylor2 through this. The program has the following eligibility requirements:

  • a 1430 on the SAT or an ACT score of 32
  • A GPA of 3. 7 or being in the top 5% of your graduating class
  • You must be a US citizen or permanent resident

The minimum requirements are listed here; applicants who are competitive will have GPAs close to 4. 0, and very high scores on their standardized tests.

Although the special program applications open on September 1, you have until November 1 to submit your Baylor University application, so we advise doing so early to avoid rushing to finish your Baylor2 application.

Baylor2 accepts applications in two rounds, the first of which is due on October 1 and the second on November 8. For round one, results are announced by January 15; for round two, results are announced by April 9.

You must finish an online form and respond to an essay prompt for the application itself. When you hit submit, you can still make changes to your application, but after that, you can no longer do so. The Baylor College of Medicine will only invite a select group of students for interviews. The essay question you need to answer is:

  • Why do you want to attend Baylor University and Baylor College of Medicine to pursue a career in medicine? (500 words)

The program only accepts six students each year.

Baylor BS/MD Application Strategy

The most crucial factor, as with all BS/MD programs, is to demonstrate that you are academically prepared for the demands of the program. You should specifically achieve very high grades in challenging classes (especially math and science) and take part in extracurricular activities that are directly related to science and medicine.

Participating in healthcare-related extracurriculars serves two purposes. First, it provides a strong foundation upon which you can later build by introducing you to the concepts used in medicine. Second, it provides you with a glimpse into the world of medicine so you can decide if it is the right career for you. For anyone interested in pursuing medicine, this makes participation in healthcare-related extracurriculars a great idea; the fact that they look great for admissions is just an added bonus.

The program requests a single essay; the interview will reveal more about you and your accomplishments. This means that you only have so many words to make an impression on them, so you must create a compelling story to maximize your available words.

This essay is actually asking two separate, but related questions:

  • Why do you want to pursue a career in medicine?
  • Why specifically do you want to enroll in this program to pursue a career in medicine?

We advise that you devote roughly half of your essay to responding to each part of the question. Start by discussing your motivation for becoming a doctor. Since being a doctor is all about helping people, it is preferred that applicants have altruistic and selfless motivations. Writing about a loved one’s passing is acceptable, but be aware that this is a very common reason for entering the field. What about your own case made this a burning need?.

We also advise emphasizing how you pursued this interest and, in doing so, grew more and more in love with the medical field. This gives you the chance to talk about your extracurricular activities related to healthcare and highlight what makes you stand out from other applicants.

You can either focus on one activity in detail or give a quick overview of everything you’ve done. One enables you to share more information and demonstrate a greater level of growth over time, whereas the other enables you to go into greater detail about your accomplishments. Although neither strategy is necessarily superior, you will discover that one better matches your writing abilities and accomplishments.

Keep in mind that you must discuss both the MD program at the Baylor College of Medicine and the undergraduate program at Baylor University when writing about the programs. In your response, we suggest distributing the space equally between the two.

When describing why you are a good fit for these programs, be as specific as you can. The objective is to demonstrate why you would succeed in the program and to provide specifics about its offerings that meet your interests and needs. Think about highlighting research conducted by professors or labs, particular course offerings or specialties, or on-campus extracurricular activities. You need more information if your essay reads like it could be written about any medical school.

All BS/MD programs provide incredible opportunities and experiences, but they are also all different and have their own peculiarities and advantages. Being a doctor requires a high level of skill and ability, so the path to becoming one is unavoidably difficult. The first challenge is getting accepted into medical school or a BS/MD program.
