Are there requirements to be pre-med or pre-dental?
Yes, in order to start your Baylor studies as a pre-med or pre-dental student, you must:
- Freshmen: Have an ACT/SAT composite score of 24 or 1180, with a minimum score in math of 24 or 570. You may retest and submit new scores to Undergraduate Admissions. Updated scores must be received and processed by August 1.
- Transfers – Have a cumulative college GPA of 3. 0 or better.
Is Baylor test optional for the 2020-21 admissions cycle?
Yes, Baylor will be test optional. To submit test results, students must obtain a 24/1180. Students who submit applications without test results will have their high school academic records individually reviewed for Pre-Med approval.
I currently don’t meet the requirements to be designated pre-med/pre-dent. Will i still have an opportunity to be pre-med?
Yes, you can add the designation once you meet one of the requirements listed below:
- Earn a 3. After 30 credits at Baylor University, a cumulative GPA of 0 or better is required.
- Earn a 3. a cumulative GPA of zero or better in 12 or more credit hours of Baylor University biology, chemistry, physics, and math/statistics courses
What resources are available to me as a pre-med student at Baylor?
Students at Baylor have access to the prehealth committee, a wide range of student organizations, supplemental instruction, and tutoring. For its pre-med and pre-health students, Waco itself provides a variety of opportunities.
What is the average class size for science courses?
Around 100 students show up for general science lectures at first, and as you progress through your program, that number drops to about 30. Labs will be under 30 for your entire Baylor experience.
Are there research opportunities available to me at Baylor? How soon can I begin research?
Baylor offers research as early as your freshman year. You can apply for opportunities both during the summer and the academic year.

Are there any prehealth scholarships?
Yes, a number of scholarships are given to Pre-Med and Pre-Dent students who are Seniors (90 hours) or Juniors (60-89 hours) through the Prehealth Office. The application usually opens early in the Spring semester.
